Qawwali originated in the Indian subcontinent, which historically includes the present-day countries of India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Qawwali has deep roots in the regions that are now part of Pakistan and North India, particularly with the influence of Sufi saints such as Amir Khusrow in the 13th century.
